Catturate le prime immagini dell’asteroide dal diametro di circa un chilometro e mezzo che si prevede saluterà la Terra il 29 aprile, ma dalla distanza di sicurezza pari a 16 volte quella della che separa il nostro pianeta dalla Luna. Mancano ancora alcuni giorni al passaggio, ma il grande asteroide 1998 OR2 sta già facendo parlare molto di sé sul web ed è stato fotografato anche dall’Italia, grazie all’astrofisico Gianluca Masi, responsabile del Virtual Telescope.
“1998 OR2 rientra nella categoria degli asteroidi potenzialmente pericolosi, cui appartengono gli asteroidi dal diametro superiore a 140 metri e con un’orbita che li porta a sfrecciare entro 7,5 milioni di chilometri dalla Terra”, ha detto Masi all’ANSA. L’asteroide, ha aggiunto, “si avvicinerà alla una distanza sicura di ben 6,3 milioni di chilometri”.
